SMA Sunny Tripower 125
The SMA Sunny Tripower 125 is a three-phase string inverter for large commercial PV systems and decentralized power plant structures up to the megawatt range. With 125kW AC nominal power and twelve MPP trackers, it enables flexible string design even for complex rooftop or ground-mounted layouts. The design for a 1,100V DC input voltage supports long strings and reduces cabling effort. A European efficiency of 98.4% reduces system-related conversion losses and has a direct impact on annual yield. Integrated protection functions such as a DC load-break switch, surge arresters on the DC and AC sides, and arc fault circuit interruption (AFCI) increase operational safety in grid-parallel operation in accordance with VDE‑AR‑N4105 and 4110. The IP65 protection class allows use in demanding outdoor environments without additional enclosures.
TechnologyThe inverter operates as a grid-connected, three-phase system with an AC nominal power of 125,000W and is designed for high DC generator capacities of up to 150kW. Twelve independent MPP trackers allow separate control of different module arrays, which is particularly relevant in the case of partial shading, varying roof inclinations, or east/west orientations. The maximum DC input voltage of 1,100V expands the usable voltage range of modern high-performance modules and supports efficient string sizing. Integrated functions such as AFCI contribute to the early detection of arc faults and reduce fire risks in large PV arrays.
Power and protection concept- Three-phase grid feed-in in accordance with current connection regulations for stable feed-in to medium- and low-voltage grids.
- High European efficiency to minimize conversion losses in partial-load and full-load operation.
- Integrated DC load-break switch for safe maintenance and service work on the generator connection.
- Arc fault detection to increase system safety with long string lengths.
ConnectivityFor system integration, the Sunny Tripower 125 provides standardized communication interfaces that allow integration into higher-level monitoring and energy management systems. Support for SMA Modbus and SunSpec Modbus enables data exchange with control systems, data loggers, and SCADA environments. Via SMA Speedwire, the inverter can be integrated into existing Ethernet infrastructures, which is particularly relevant for larger systems with multiple feed-in points. Continuous monitoring of operational parameters facilitates fault diagnosis and supports efficient O&M operations.
Communication and monitoring- Modbus interfaces for standardized integration into system monitoring and grid management systems.
- Speedwire connection for stable, wired communication even in large system structures.
- Remote monitoring for early detection of deviations and reduction of downtime.
WarrantyThe inverter is supplied with a standard factory warranty of five years. This basic warranty covers typical material and manufacturing defects and is designed for continuous operation in commercial PV systems. For projects with longer amortization periods or increased availability requirements, the warranty can optionally be extended to up to 20 years. An extended warranty can reduce operational risk and is particularly relevant for systems with long-term feed-in contracts or power purchase agreements.
Warranty options- Five-year factory warranty as standard coverage for commercial continuous operation.
- Optional warranty extension for long-term projects with increased availability requirements.
SustainabilityWith regard to sustainability, the Sunny Tripower 125 is designed for a long service life and high energy yield. The high efficiency reduces system-related losses and improves the overall energy balance of the PV system. The robust design with IP65 protection class enables outdoor installation without additional protective enclosures, reducing material usage and installation effort. In addition, the device is registered in accordance with the WEEE Directive and thus supports regulated take-back and recycling at the end of the product life cycle.
Environmental aspects- High efficiency to maximize usable solar energy over the entire operating period.
- IP65 enclosure for durable operation in demanding environmental conditions.
- WEEE registration for standards-compliant disposal and recycling.
QualityThe device quality is reflected in the robust mechanical design and the integrated protection components. With dimensions of 1,020×795×360mm and a weight of around 96kg, the inverter is designed for fixed wall mounting in technical rooms or outdoor areas. TypeI/II surge arresters on the DC side and TypeII on the AC side protect the power electronics against transient overvoltages. Compliance with VDE‑AR‑N4105 and 4110 ensures a standards-compliant grid connection in German power grids.
Mechanical and electrical quality- Integrated surge protection for DC and AC sides to safeguard the power electronics.
- Standards-compliant design for grid-parallel operation in accordance with current VDE regulations.
- Robust enclosure concept for long-term operation in industrial environments.
ExpandabilityThe Sunny Tripower 125 is designed for scalable system concepts and can be integrated into larger PV systems with multiple inverters. Thanks to standardized communication, additional devices can be easily integrated into existing monitoring infrastructures. Accessories such as AC connection plates or retrofit kits for surge protection support system-specific adaptation. The high number of MPP trackers facilitates later expansion of the generator area without fundamentally changing the existing string architecture.
System expansion- Easy integration of additional inverters into modular large-scale system concepts.
- Compatibility with system-side accessories for customized system layouts.
- Flexible string design facilitates later generator expansions.
